Wireless CarPlay connection issues

When it comes to wireless CarPlay, the issues customers face are often due to various factors, and not necessarily the device or software. This article will outline various factors that may be contributing to the issues you are encountering:

1. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Activation: Please ensure that the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned “ON” your phone and the Wi-Fi option is turned “OFF” on the Radio. It is crucial for establishing a seamless wireless connection.

When using wireless CarPlay, it is necessary to have Wi-Fi turned “ON” on your phone and connect via Bluetooth BEFORE the radio connects to wireless CarPlay via your phone's Wi-Fi signal.

If you encounter a "waiting for device to connect" message, please follow these steps:

  1. Close the car-link 2.0 app
  2. Turn on the WiFi and Bluetooth option on your phone
  3. Reconnect Bluetooth
  4. Relaunch the CarLink 2.0 app

If it doesn’t automatically say “verification approved” and connects to CarPlay then you will need to open your phone's Wi-Fi settings to ensure that your phone's Wi-Fi is connected to the "CarLinkAP" when you open the CarLink 2.0 app.

2. Simultaneous Use of Wireless CarPlay and Radio Wi-Fi: Attempting to use wireless CarPlay and Wi-Fi on the radio concurrently will prevent a successful connection.

As soon as the radio's internal Wi-Fi is activated, it will not allow for a wireless CarPlay connection and it will disconnect CarPlay if already connected. You can only use wired CarPlay and Wi-Fi simultaneously. Make sure the Wi-Fi option on the radio is “OFF” if using wireless CarPlay.

3. Phone Connected to other Bluetooth or WiFi Devices: If your phone is connected to a separate Bluetooth device such as an Apple Watch, headphones, or any other device, it will cause connection issues.

Additionally, your phone's Wi-Fi should not be connected to any other Wi-Fi signal, as this will hinder the CarLinkAP connection.

Once the radio is connected to wireless CarPlay you can turn “OFF” the Bluetooth option on your phone to prevent it from connecting to other saved devices. The CarPlay will remain connected to the WiFi on your phone via the radios signal and Bluetooth will no longer be necessary.

4. Reception Issues: Poor reception can also contribute to connection problems, which unfortunately is beyond our control as it is dependent on your cellular provider. Restarting your phone may fix this issue.

5. Apple iPhone iOS update needed: By installing the latest iOS update, you can ensure that your device is equipped with the most recent software enhancements, bug fixes, and compatibility improvements. This, in turn, can greatly enhance the stability and performance of your carplay connection.

Furthermore, you may also attempt resetting your network settings. Sometimes, resetting the network settings on your phone resolves connectivity issues. To accomplish this, access your phone's settings, select "General," then "Reset," and finally, "Reset Network Settings." Please bear in mind that this action will remove saved Wi-Fi networks and connected Bluetooth devices, so you may need to reconnect to them afterward.

Should you desire a more stable connection or if you need to connect multiple devices simultaneously, we recommend using wired CarPlay via the usb 1 (4-pin) port.
